A "moving message display" is a typical example of a thing a lot of 'amateurs' that want to make money look at and say "I can do that cheaper". The reason it seems so are all the 'hidden' details such as viewing angle, brightness control, brightness in sunlight, smooth scroll (NOT easy), .... The same goes for a weigh scale. How many have we seen that has confused 'resolution' with 'precision'. Ignoring all the "unnecessary details that end up being necessary" you can easily come to the conclusion "I can make these and make a ton of money" only to fall flat on your face when the reality hits.
