It really depends. Suppose I buy the first few samples lose at 2-10 times the bulk cost and make no profit, I will still have the market demand estimates right only after the first prototypes are out. Then depending on demand, I would decide to either buy in bulk, or not buy at all. And if a demand is good, you can arrange for the capital, anyway.

And yes, I DO have the capital to make the initial investment on design and small scale production.

My objective in this project would be twofold:

1. Participate in the nuts and bolts of building a product. So I could learn something.
2. Make the product successful
