There are 4 general "major" factors in designing an electronic project (well any project).

I didn't realise this until a couple of years ago.

The factors are Quality, Cost, Time and Experience... (to keep these all in balance)

If you change any one of these factors then others will be effected.

Eg..
If you have lots of time , then you can improve quality and cost.

If you are short on time, but still want to keep the quality, then costs will increase
(may be because you need more staff to complete on time)

Inexperience will lead to longer design times and quality issues with the same time frame...

It's really a subject for project management.. but suitable to your post.
