forget about protoboards, have a spcific dedicated 4 or more layer PCB made with modern components, forget what you may have laying on the shelf. You will be better off having the device contract manufactured, good contract manufacturers have the equimment to spit finished boards out cheap and without defects.

Then invest in a the design and manufacturing of a good looking enclosure.

There is, as far as I know, and I have tried, no shortcuts to the above.
