Also, a real world project / product means mass manufacture... and designing for all 4 project factors above.

SMD (surface mount components) are really only economical in the manufacturer pack sizes. Sure you can buy them loose , but the costs are usually 2 ~ 10 fold more than in the mfg pack sizes.

For small SMD components the minimum pack sizes may be 1000 ~ 10000 or more.

Hence components are economical in large pack sizes and you "may" need to purchase all these components as you go to manufacture. Do you have the financial capital to purchase the components?
