#165842 - multi-source getting harder to get Responding to: ???'s previous message |
The bad thing here is that cost requirements and product cycle times sometimes does not allow the multi-sourced option.
This world is - alas - full of single-sourced processors that isn't so easy to ignore. Sometimes a PIC processor is too much better than the rest. Sometimes, an AVR chip is the perfect match. Sometimes an ARM chip from a specific vendor. Or maybe a FreeScale MPC chip. The 8051 family is one of the few where many manufacturers don't just have (almost) identical cores, but also many variants with (almost) identical peripherials. |
