... but I have at least ten times more '51s and other assorted microcontrollers around than PCs, not to say the troubles with Windows, hardware compatibility issues etc. I have learned the hard way back then, what the word "compatibility" really means, when it comes to PC being used as "just another programmable device". And, for a "waveform generator", whatever that means, is not likely you will need any of the services provided by the OSes on PC, whether it is a simple-task DOS-and-alike, or Win/ux.
FPGAs and the kind are of course fine when the task calls for it - and even when it does not, provided that you are proficient enough in it and the kit is at hand. However, if you need to control it, it's the very same decision whether to use a PC or a microcontroller. JW |
