This assumes that the other string burns evenly.

The key here is to burn the first string with two flames and the other with four flames after the first one has been fully burned.

One idea is to first burn the other string from both ends -> 30 minutes.

Then ignite the other string from ends and in the middle. Always when flames reach each other the remaining string should be ignited in the middle to keep the four flames going on. After 45 minutes You should have nothing but ash.....
