most people worked out you can measure 30 minutes by simply lighting the first piece of string at both ends, and it will burn out in 30 minutes, the trick which most people don't get at first is to light one end of the second piece of string at the same time as you light the two ends of the first, so then when the first piece of string burns out the second still has 30 minutes left to burn, when the first goes out you light the second end of the second string which will then burn out after 15 minutes giving you 45 minutes. The guy in the interview got the first part but then got stuck on the second, he still got the job though. |
