What are the numbers for Germany, and other countries in Europe?
Here's some painfully meticulous (what else did you expect from Germans ? ) statistics by the BKA (our "sort-of" equivalent to the FBI). I'm afraid it's in German, though. http://www.bka.de/pks/pks2006/index2.html Basically, there were 932 cases of murder and 1897 cases of manslaughter in Germany in 2006. That translates to about 1.2 cases of murder per 100.000 citizens and about twice that for manslaughter. The number of murders in connection with robberies is 25 in total. (Over here, you're much more likely to be murdered by someone you know, trust and maybe even are related to than by some random guy on the street). Firearms were used in only about 8% of the homicide cases. (In fact, the crime that has the highest incidence of firearm use is ... (unsurprisingly) ... poaching, with 28%). |
