I've done this a couple of times before using a OPB706A from Optek, but this sensor does not show any difference between the black and the grey. The above sensor uses IR LED, I'm thinking I need to maybe try a visible LED (red, green, or blue), possibly a pulsed laser. Things showing different colours under normal ambient light can look identically under IR light. Take a video babyphone, turn-off all ambient light and have a look at your ribbon with the IR light of video babyphone only. If you see a sharp difference now, then IR light can be used. Why not using white light? Kai |
