#141175 - Breadboarding helped me a lot! Responding to: ???'s previous message |

Yes, I've learned this "the hard way" attempting to extract meaningful results, building relatively low-frequency circuits such as PLL's, simple op-amp circuits operating at audio rates, but even then, the results were not reproducible, nor were they consistent with what one might expect. I'm sorry, but I experienced just the opposite. Maybe you expect too much from the breadboard? I use it during the developing phase, to check-out the basic behaviour of certain circuit parts. Not for the fine tuning. The PCB is 50% of the whole project anyway and is as important as the circuit. You will always get different results, even when slightly changing the layout of a proper PCB. A hint: Connect the metallic base-plate of breadboard to signal ground and don't use adjacent contacts for critical signals. You can even connect certain contacts to signal ground to achieve an effective shielding. Also, I do not have one big breadboard for the whole circuit, but several small area breadboards, to fully isolate critical sections. Kai |
