Well, that was people selling 8051s as products.

But what about people selling products that happen to have an 8051 core embedded in them?
eg, MP3 chips where the clever stuff is done by dedicated hardware, but there's an 8051 core in there just to boot it up, provide user interface, etc...

There's an awful lot of that kind of stuff about...

Can you even get AVR or PIC as "soft" cores?
