I'm not sure how much I'd be concerned with what the marketing departments of companies choose to promote. ARM is relatively new and sexy and everyone wants potential clients to know that they're in that market. A new option does not take away from solid, tried-and-true solutions based on the 8051 for which there are still over a hundred derivatives from multiple companies.

Ultimately, you always should pick the right processor for the job. Sometimes that will be 8051, sometimes not. When it's not, I think having more options is definitely a good thing.
