If you call the references and ask "was he employed here and for how long?", I know of no company that will not answer that. Then ask "do you give references?".
That way, you can confirm that his resumee is correct and, maybe someone will say a bit more, often the tone in which "yes, he was here from xxx to yyy" is said will say more than a reference. If you get "he was here, we do not give references" go to the MD (I guess it who we refer to as the prez) and state that. One of the best guys I ever hired came across in the interview so that he was hire as the last choice and one of the worst seemed very nice and bright and knew what he was talking about and ticked all the right boxes Unfortunately ability and productivity does not always go together Erik |
