Hi Erik,
i planned to use external flash memory Atmel AT45DB161D. This is a 2 Mega bytes memory with SPI interface.I tried to use some samples and i'm satisfied. An interesting point is this memory has 2 integrated buffers to hold flash pages data, this helps very much.

I forgot to tell my costumer wants the device to hold records for at least 1 year, for about 1,6 Megabytes total data after a year.
