#126992 - 5-volt CPLD's Responding to: ???'s previous message |
While they're no longer mainstream parts, the XC9500-series (5-volt capable)is still avaialble, thanks be to God! The 9500XL series is 5-volt "tolerant" so one can use it with 5-volt logic if one provides pullups at the driven outputs.
Using a $2 CPLD that won't drive 5-volt hardware seems pretty silly to me, since the level shifters cost about $0.40 per byte. It's easier and cheaper to find other solutions. Alteral 7000-series CPLD's are still around also, though they're rather costly. The EPM7128SLC84's, which I use from time to time, cost $18 or so in units through distribution, but I've routinely bought 'em for $2 or so on eBay. They work just fine. The quantity is falling off, nowadays, but one who has an adequate programmer, since the 'E' series is not JTAG programmable, can still use the 7128E, which is still quite abundant on the surplus market. My DATA I/O Unisite handles 'em, thank goodness. SPLD's are still quite availble, too, and those will probably be of more interest to most 8052'ers. RE |
