several years ago, XILINX advertised an evaluation board for their "CoolRunner" series of CPLD's, which ran on power extracted by wiring two grapefruit in series, and using the power extracted from that.

The thing had an LCD display and an on-board oscillator (32 kHz) which it counted and displayed.

I think it's still up on their website, or perhaps on Avnet's, though the boards aren't available any longer.
