It would be really good if everyone were working from the same, minimal, data set. Experience will always be varied, but it would be nice if everyone knew some basic things, ... you know ... E=IR and stuff like that, not to mention, "What is memory-mapped I/O?"
Maybe a test would be appropriate. Find 5 syntax errors in the following page of code ... Why won't the circuit below drive the LED? What does UART mean? How many registers does an 805x have? What's does SFR mean? Why can't I program my 8031 in COBOL? Will LINUX run on my AT2051? Anyone failing to answer those questions has to jump through the hoops. Unfortunately newbies are impatient. Newbies are ignorant. Newbies are necessary for the future of this pursuit, though. How do we make 'em "drink" rather than just look for a different water hole? RE |
