so long as SEARCH produces 538 hits, of which many don't address basic issues, when one searches <character LCD>, I think this might be a mite burdensome.
With the development of a more comprehensive FAQ, which effort seems to be underway, I think search of the entire thread-base might be excessive. I don't think Andy's notion is a bad one, but until the FAQ's are filled up with sufficient relevant and complete information to meet a typical newbie's needs, or those of a knowledgable user who just wants specifics on some feature, and until SEARCH no longer brings up hits that aren't relevant, perhaps becuase they've keyed on one rather than both of the search terms, it might be premature to require jumping through such hoops just to start a new thread. The "bible" doesn't say anything about LCD's, nor does it mention lots of other relatively vital things. There's lots of useful traffic on this site, but, clearly, some separation of wheat from chaff could be done. Searching all the traffic isn't likely to produce a useful set of hits, particularly if it OR's the search terms and generates so many hits that one can't pick through them. RE |
