Perhaps the least useful thing to introduce would be arbitrary ratings on the basis of "value." What's usless rubbish to one person could easily save a month's work for someone else.

RE

What I'm saying here is all the results are still shown, just ordered by some other method. If a thread has 100 posts in it, then obviously it was something that was discussed and probably has more of a chance of containing something relevant(it should also contain more than one reference to the search term(s)). A thread that has been successfully resolved should have more weight that one that doesn't.

When you look at the returned results, they appear to be ordered by date newest one first, oldest last.

1) The search should have the option to search just titles or bodies or both.

2) The search should consider the number of times the "term" is found in a thread.

3) consider if the thread was resolved (not much meaning, unless more are closed when resolved)

4) condider the number of posts in the thread.

5) Should probably be case sensitive. (this would eliminate spider from showing up if SPI is entered)

6) if the search term is present and the thread has been voted informative, then that should be above one that has been voted not useful.

Many others could be implemented, but ordering by date has to be dealt with above all. In the end nothing is going to be perfect.
