#119057 - The Patriot Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Hi Steve,
There's a line in a movie that sums up my thoughts on the matter quite nicely. It was a Mel Gibson movie entitled The Patriot (I understand if it wasn't that popular on your side of the pond). There is a scene wherein the colonists are debating and voting on joining the revolution. Mel Gibson's character asks the group, "Why should I be more concerned about one tyrant 3000 miles away than 3000 tyrants one mile away?" Anyway, some may find it surprising that a contemporary Colonist doesn't find the idea of a monarch, a benevolent despot, anathema. As for you and Craig, despots maybe, benevolent definitely. |
