Hmm, I think it's a mistake to use spark gaps as a protection against ESD, just because the spark of a spark gap needs much longer to develop than the ESD event needs to discharge and destroy, which is only some dozens of nanoseconds! Spark gaps are good to protect against surges, where we have rise and fall times in the tens of microseonds, think of the well known 8/20 and 10/1000 standard surges, for instance. Kai |
