In this case, the first step would be to find out what makes the one machine different from the other three. There has to be some kind of difference, however obscure it may be.
the difference can be 'legal'. I recall a really tough case (12 large boards on a bus making a TTL based minicomputer) where the difference between "working" and "not working" was whether a certain chip was lot a or lot b. The chips from lot a was between min and typ on a timing spec, those from lot b was between max and typ. The faulty computers failed because of a pulse too narrow to see on the scope (pre-storage) "slipping through" when the chip was from lot a. Such issues making a difference just show a totally faulty DESIGN, thy do not show "the need for chip selection". Erik |
