There is a so called electronics magazine in england called everyday practical eletronics which publishes hobby projects based almost exclusivly on pics and hand coded assembler and Its obviously run by someone from his garden shed and most of the income comes from people who advertise pic kits.I think that this magazine is about the only place ive seen people using pics.
But its like football teams people get attached to things for no rational reason even if they are crap.
