There is no way in hades you can globally state that one uC is 'better" than another.

Had you stated "in some applications I have found the AVR a good choice" you would have made a true statement, but stating that the AVR is better than the PIC regardless of the application is pure BS.

Please note: I state this with very little knowledge of the two, but in the various uCs I have used there has never been any that was unconditionalally "better" and that I know will be true whether you speak of the '51, the x86, the PIC, the AVR, the Rabbit, the XA, the Z80, the ARM, the Acme, the SUE or whatever.
