It was California I didn't care for and left knowing we were not going back. We spent 2-1/2 years traveling and looking for another place to call home. It was a family project. New Zealand was the best of the places we saw for us (La Paz, Mexico took second). Nice uncrowded place, friendly people, clean environment and not as much crime, drugs, etc. as California. The police still don't wear guns here. The NZ government has been cited as the most transparent and "least corrupt" of the OECD countries.
Electronic engineers and embedded system engineers are in high demand here but salaries are much lower than the USA. You have to be willing to trade off some income for the lifestyle. To counter this many engineers start their own small businesses and deal internationally (we export 97% of our manufactured products). If you employ 6 or more people in New Zealand you are in the top 10% of all companies in size. With a few notable exceptions, many companies are just Mom and Pop organizations. Bert |
