The discussion that have been ongoing is if it is worse to go further and further from the component values specified in datasheets. But back to your, just started, subtopic: On one hand, Maxim may have specific reasons for supporting 1uF with MAX232A without having a reason to support 10uF with a MAX232 just because of the special case with field repairs etc. What compatibility reason would Maxim have for supporting 10uF? On the other hand, Maxim do have partial documentation about using some of the 0.1uF transceivers with 1uF capacitors. No documentation about using them with higher capacitances than 1uF. |
