You might have a design utilizing the 232 and you have a lot of these boards out in the field. They come back and you have to replace that chip, but you're out of stock of the 232. You do have stock of the 232A. Is it suitable to place the 232A in place of the 232 for the time being without replacing the capacitors? That is the reason for this discussion.
