#178469 - The heat was always a challenge with high-power linears Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I remember many occasions wherein I had to add a fan to an already sizeable heat sink simply to move the heat from a 5 or 10-amp regulator, whether discrete or hybrid, to the outside of the enclosure. The choice to go to switchers was much more difficult back then because of the very large switching noise that the switchers of the day introduced. I'm still cautious about using switchers, but, fortunately, today's switchers aren't so noisy.
