#178462 - 12V the big favourite in a PC
Responding to: ???'s previous message

I doubt (do not know) much in a PC still use 5V

The main electronics are driven by 12V and local switching regulators. New PC PSU have multiple separated 12V supplies (not just multiple wires from same huge 12V supply) for optimum load balancing and regulation.

But the PSU still have to feed a lot of current at 5V to disk drives. They haven't moved fully towards the 12V supply - probably because the smaller form-factor disks only have 5V - or 5V and 3V3.
