I'm afraid that I'd have to agree with that.

However, it's probably worth trying to think what it's like to be the 1st-line support guy; probably 90% of the questions he gets are ones to which the answer really is just, "RTFM!"

So one needs to be careful that one's contact with them demonstrates that one really has thought hard about this, and really studied the documentation, etc.
This can be an advantage of sticking with a single supplier: once they get to recognise you as someone who actually does know what they're talking about, the level of support can increase.
