mfc71.dll should have been available in a redist directory on the Atmel developers hard drive. They had too much wool between the eyes to figure out that it was there, specifically to be redistributed with their installation packages... They somehow forgot to read this page:

This machine has a different version of Visual Studio, but I might be able to help tomorrow.
