#176256 - Atmel AT89LP Developer Studio |
I've noticed that the new AT89LP Developer Studio - which is intended to support the 'LP single-clocker range, including OCD present on some models - now installs in its directory a copy of SDCC version 2.9.0 (funnily, they included the whole package, Z80, HC08, PICs and all ;-) oh we have those fast Internet connections and terrabyte disks, so why would one be bothered, isn't it... :-( ).
I am curious so tried to install and run on a new and *clean* WinVista machine (by clean I mean that I actively avoid installing garbage like new versions of M$IE and Adobe Acrobat Reader, both known to be source of much grief nowadays). I've jumped through the hoops described in the documentation (the installed one) to give it a working directory to the Java runtime package. However, it still won't run, complaining on missing MFC71.DLL (a M$ C runtime DLL). The previous version did that too; I complained through support.atmel.no and was basically told that they don't have this error on their computers (basically implying that I am a stupid user who cannot properly maintain his system). Of course they don't see it: a lot of other programs quietly installs this DLL, and I believe M$ development tools (they obviously do have on their computers) do that too. As far as I can judge, the DLL is imported indirectly through Java, but still I don't think I should be the one trying to resolve this problem. When I pointed this out to the support, my request was closed without reply. I'd like to ask 8052.com users who have a bit of time and are willing to try to install and run this package, if they encounter a similar problem, to pester the Atmel support at support.atmel.no a little bit.
