WHY, I have used 10.000s of such with no problems. Now, I must say, I buy only known brand.

Of course, of course!! This was addressed to Kiran, who has problems to get reliable parts in Mumbai.

Prof. Kai Klass, you got it correctly.
In Mumbai, the market is divided into segments.

A> Dirt cheap price products: They are damn cheap, and they will kill you at the raw material cost itself. These products are mostly from China. You can just imagine the quality of the components used in them. We, (atleast I) never try do or even think about competing in this segment.

B> Medium Price Range products: These are mostly copied (or based on designs) from Segment A or Segment C. The component quality is inbetween these 2 segments. You will never find the specifications for these components, and you won't get a warranty for them. You step out of the door and the warranty of the raw material is over. Max. you can get is a 1 day warranty, if it is not soldered.
But, the quantity of products sold in this segment is high. So many companies over here, fall into this category. The warranty for the raw material is Zero, but the warranty from the manufacturer is for 1 year. After 1 year, service is charged and many, many companies survive on this service charge alone. You might find some new products being developed in this segment. Some of them have quality certificates also.

C> Large Price Range products: These products are genuinely designed and manufactured here. These products are highly priced compared to the above 2 categories, but are very much reliable. Almost all of them have quality certificates for these products.

Category A: falls into consumer segment.
Category B: mostly plastic/rubber/textile industry. They mostly do not need the instrument to be highly accurate...but "Fit to USE".
Category C: Pharmaceutical/Laboratories/Research. They are very, very quality cautious, price is a secondary matter.

My client falls into Category B. So he does get a warranty on raw material, but he gives warranty on his products. And he has being doing this since 2005. So he will not be interested in knowing the overtones, harmonis, etc. but will be interested in a circuit which will tell him ACCEPT-REJECT the raw material.

This was about the matter related to this thread.

I am a free lance developer of products, and I have worked in Segment B and C only. And so are many of the engineers from INDIA.

Erik, you might remember,we had an arguement about specifications about proximity sensors inrelation to PrahaldPurohits thread, many years ago. At that time I was working in Segment B only. But thanks to you and 8052.com, I have upgraded myself to Segment C also. So depending upon the client, I do the work for them. And try to make their (and my) life, trouble-free.
