#170566 - ISP does not mean it's public
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Andy Neil said:
I think chip makers nowadays tend to release the full programming specs only to qualified bona fide programmer manufacturers.

For those that want to program chips themselves, there's plenty with ISP.

Unfortunately, "ISP" does not mean "open protocol". For example the P89LPC9xx ICP protocol (their SPI-ISP, which is the only option for the lower-end LPC9xx's) is not published (although I see this as a very stupid decision from Philips/NXP). I was recently trying to acquire the ISP protocol for Winbond/Nuvoton's most recent ISP capable chips (much of whose are in direct competition with the LPC9xx's, and also including a '4051 compatible one), no avail.

if that is case I will stick to AT89c4051 for few bucks.

Yes, I think that's the best idea!

An alternative is to find somebody in the area with a programmer supporting this chip, or ask the manufacturer of your programmer for a support (if it is not a homebrew one). I agree that that might easily be not worth the hassle for a couple of chips, on the other hand I expect we will see more of these far-eastern chips in the near future.
