#188577 - That's SO true Responding to: ???'s previous message |
That was my path, but I worked for many years, and not just in engineering, before I became a "real" engineer. I believe "engineer" is a personality type, and not so much a discipline that can simply be learned. Engineering is, however, heavily dependent on one's ability to read and comprehend, and to write communicatively, as engineers aren't required to produce as much physical stuff as they are required to produce written specifications. It's important that they be able to observe what happens in the lab and on the test bench. It's important that they have the discipline to pursue a problem to its source, and, above all, it's important that they be able to reach rational conclusions based on their observations.
I'm not sure that stuff is taught in universities and technical schools any longer. RE |
