Yes, I have done Skype both on my phone and on my tablet. Yes, but at what cost? Having it work on a phone does prove the point that the bandwidth can be had. Moving it to a PC doesn't really matter - you can use a USB-connected thumb modem with a 3G card. I doubt that USB-connected peripherals would improve the cost and performance of the cellular system. I understand it's WAY better in Europe than here. But there are also solutions where you instead of VoIP with Skype just run normal GSM calls from your computer. I don't deny that all this is possible, but what I want is a notebook that is designed from the ground up, with the primary purpose of providing cellular network-based voice comm's. I haven't seen one yet. I want a really BIG display, so I can see it and read it without making too many mistakes, and a keyboard so I can type messages. I suppose software would have to break a message up into legal text messages. That would give me an excuse to buy a new notebook, as my 10-year old, and still perfectly useful one weighs about six pounds, which is a mite heavy, and that doesn't include the "brick" which is needed to recharge he battery.
