#183968 - I've long awaited such a thing ... Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I read nearly a decade ago that someone somewhere was developing a display technology that was essentially on paper and printable, hence, cheap once in full-scale production.
I was thinking that the new larger-display "smartphones" could benefit from that, as the LCD could easily break when dropped on the floor or when something, e.g. a fork when the phone is on the table, were to be dropped on it. While that might scratch a display, it wouldn't necessarily destroy it if the display were sufficiently flexible. Now, what I really want is an attachment to my notebook that will enable me, given a headset and the subject attachment, will turn it into a cellphone, yet allow me to text, with my aged eyes and not-so-nimble fingers by using the normal, e.g. 15-inch display and reasonable sized standard keyboard. To me, that would be worth six iPhones, as the iPhone and its ilk are all small enough that I have to dig out my glasses to read the display, and requires I use a magnifier to read the legends on the "keypad." Also, the angle of the display and keyboard, as presented on a notebook is more comfortable, at least to me, than any cellphone/blackberry. The flexible display lays the groundwork for a display that can be attached, if necessary, to a smartphone so one can actually use it to read messages without a magnifier. Further, there are already "rollable" membrane keyboards. I see a future there ... I'm not going to build it, but perhaps one of you guys can do that. RE |
