#184011 - Yes, but 3G/4G is useless for internet access over here Responding to: ???'s previous message |
You can use it to do .001% of your internet work, but cellular providers only allow you to use a small amount of bandwidth. They also throttle your data rate if you're using a little more than they want you to use. COnsidering that they typically charge as much for the few drops they let you use, as REAL ISP's charge for unlimited broadband, at tens of Mbits/sec, I don't see it as useful or worthwhile.
What I'd want is a genuine cellular hookup that works on the notebook, without any additional charges, such as might be added if I have a lengthy conversation with my colleague while he's visiting the packaging facility in Rawalpindi, or elsewhere. Skype would be really handy for that, but it's not realistic over here, so far via a cellular hookup, ... yet. Maybe things will improve ... <sigh> ... if I live that long ... The U.S. is getting to be more and more backward with respect to the civilized world, as far as internet use is concerned. We taxpayers even paid in advance, and in full, for a fiberoptic network that was supposed to provide every household with about 275 Mbps over which TV, Voice, and internet could be transported, but the former RBOC's and others simply took the money from the Government and diverted it to their cellular development. Now all we've got is a lousy cellular system, poor cellphones that have lots of "kewl" features that sometimes work, and a voice system that doesn't work so well. Several "developing" nations have considerably better internet service available than we here in the U.S, where it was invented. I'm still waiting for a cellphone with a PC-sized keyboard and a 20" display that's at a reasonable angle. RE |
