I do think they can take off. But if it will be organic transistors or something else we'll have to see.

But a flexible display - something similar to paper - would be excellent. Right now, the size of our mobile phones is controlled by the size of the display. We had 2" -> 2.5" -> 3" -> ...

Still, a mobile phone has too small display to be efficient when reading larger amounts of text. And it isn't practical when looking at high-resolution imagery either.

With a display that can be rolled up, like the screen for an overhead projector, we could get access to huge displays for devices still small enough to store in a pocket. But obviously, we can't have huge back-lit displays because the amount of power to light them would scale with the area. We would need something more like paper, where the display makes use of the ambient light.
