#182481 - Why peoplw buy Macs Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Hi Andy,
people buy macs because they are cool - not for technical reasons. I don't know why people buy Macs, but I do know that there are, and always have been, very good technical reasons to buy Macx. Do you remember the 640k barrier? Do you remember the difference between extended memory and expanded memory? Do you remember when Windows was nothing but a GUI for DOS? Do you remember that MAC keyboards and mice used the equivalent of a USB from the early days? Macs were always very technically superior to IBM/DOS/Windows systems. But then again, Betamax was very much technically superior to VHS. Even so, VHS swept up 99% of the market share, just like Windows. And the reason is simple. Co$t! VHS VCRs and tapes were a fraction the cost of Betamaz. And very few people cared about the supierior audio and picture quality. They just wanted to tape MASH. Similarly, for the cost of a single Mac I can network five or ten PCs together. And since there are about a buhjillion PCs for each Mac (and to all of you who want to immediately correct my "misinformation" with accurate market share figures, note first that "buhjillion" is NAN and then get a life) software is, or at least once was, more readilly available. And of course, that's the reason for the thought that began this thread, that Windows are more "vulnerable" because they're more attacked because there are more of them. It's a vicious cycle that, like this thread, has come full circle. Joe |
