#182470 - why buy a mac Responding to: ???'s previous message |

people buy macs because they are cool - not for technical reasons. I buy Macs because they are technically cool. Seriously, though, I greatly prefer OS X to Windows, an opinion which has been reinforced this week which was spent configuring a new Win7-64 machine. Jeez, just trying to figure out whether I am logged into the domain or just onto the computer is difficult. Where are the usual configuration things? Why is it so goddamn complicated to do anything? People seem to think that OS X hides everything from the users, and to some extent that's true, but at least things are hidden in a reasonable way. Windows seems to think that obscurity is the way to go for anything. I swear to $DIETY that I wasted an hour trying to figure out WTF a "foreign disk" might be. See, I made the mistake of taking a hard disk out of an older machine (not even the OS disk, just a data disk) and putting into the new machine, setting the magic BIOS bit (why does BIOS still exist?) and then wondering why it didn't show up in Windows. Phooey. -=a |
