#181354 - Turn the tables...
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Peter said:
When a user decides to use a +15V adapter (we deliver a +9V ofcourse) I want the device to respond by 'shutdown'.
The device is designed for 9V.
It's a little hard to put it that way but it prevents endless discussions with people who used an adapter we didn't provide.

Why all that hazzle? Why not powering everything inside your device by this wide input range 5V switcher you talked about earlier? You could easily take a step-up switcher at the output of your 5V switcher, or this step-down ZXLD1356 thingy for the backlight current generation. Also, it would free you of the need of a sophisticated, regulated supply, delivering a very certain 9V voltage.

Is the 9V-supply that thing you want to make money with? Or do you want to "punish" your customers?

Turn the tables and design your device in such a way, that it will run with all kinds of usual adapters. Would be a big plus in your specifications' list! Remember: "The customer is always right." Don't annoy him with a "shutdown". Sooner or later he will quit it with a "bye-bye"...
