The idea of a CC for this particular situation is a very nice solution.
On the other hand I want to use the protection also for situations which can't be solved by a CC.
The backlight was an example.

apart from the above...

When a user decides to use a +15V adapter (we deliver a +9V ofcourse) I want the device to respond by 'shutdown'.
The device is designed for 9V.
It's a little hard to put it that way but it prevents endless discussions with people who used an adapter we didn't provide.

That's why I looked at a crowbar with a polyswitch
