Looking at these articles, they appear to me to be directed at people with absolutely no electrical or electronics knowledge (or interest?) at all - which is why I think it's particularly bad that they don't give any advice or warnings on LED selection.

Then again, perhaps it explains why they don't give any advice or warnings on LED selection - because they simply don't know that there is any issue to be concerned about!

The trouble will start when someone, invetitably, realises that a pair of AA cells also gives 3V - and tries to substitute AAs for the coin cell...
Or even a Li-Ion type of battery...

I like the idea of a "coin" flat resistor, though...
