I have one each: D87C52EBP, D80C31F-1, D80C49, 48, 39, and uPD7810.
Which would be the most versatile for running programs from external memory, and ISP? I don't know about the 804x and uPD7810, but neither the 8752 (UV-EPROM) nor 8031 (ROMLESS) is going to be particularly versatile for ISP This is because the 8051 has a Harvard architecture - separate code & data memories - and has no means to write to its Code memory. Therefore, you'd have to do nasty hardware tricks to make it behave as a Von Neumann architecture. http://www.keil.com/support/docs/3445.htm Of course, this was common enough 20+ years ago (before ISP chips came along) - so you'll need to look out some contemporary books, designs, etc to go with your ancient chips! |
