#177353 - ROM Based
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Nathan:
You may be spinning your wheels regarding this part from a HDD PCB. As far as I recall this part has code based in a ROM that got programmed as a part of the chip manufacturing process. Unless the content of that ROM was fully compatible with what you were trying to do then it is unlikely that you'll make much progress with this thing.

Another consideration is that this part has been discontinued and out of availability for nearly 10 years. In my opinion you would do a lot better with your time to obtain a low cost eval board for a modern and readily available MCU and learn from that. You could not go wrong with any of the SiLabs boards for about $100 that includes a powersupply, debug pod and a CD that gives you a free eval copy of the Keil tool set that is a better deal than the one you can download from the Kiel web site. The one from the CD lets you make code up to 8K and ORGed to zero.
