#171363 - Anyone work with the 8048? |
I have the opportunity (wrong word?) to modify an old system that used a variation on the 8048. The actual chip is 8021. Does anyone recall any hands-on experience with device programmers and these beasts? The project only requires a minor modification, but there is no source code. If the devices can be read with an (old) device programmer, it might be possible to read the current program, disassemble and then possibly patch in some kind of change. So I guess my first question is, do the devices support code protection? Darned if I can find a data sheet for an 8021.
I realize that considering the code size in these little beasts it might be better to forward engineer than reverse engineer -- and I might do that, but it would be nice to look at the code because right now all I have to go by is the old user manual. And we all know how accurate they are. |
