#169359 - connectors Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Hi Everyone,
..., cause the paired connectors expensive... If you etch a standard edge connector array onto your board, you need to plate the pads with gold over nickle. The gold provides good conduction while the nickle gives the pads needed hardness. If you just leave your pads as bare copper, they will not survive very many cycles of insertion and removal. Or you could use mated connectors, vertical on the back plane and right angle on the cards. If you have your boards made, compare the cost of plating the pads to buying the connectors. And in either case, compare the savings of leaving the edge connection pads bare to the cost of all the parts on the board that will be lost when the edge connection fails prematurely. Joe |
